Catalogue for a retrospective exhibition of Mercedes Matter (1913-2001), a New York born abstract expressionist painter.

Matter is a frequent photographic subject of her husband, Herbert Matter, the Swish graphic designer and photographer, whose work is shown on the cover. By printing her name along the edges of this large format book, we intend to capture her understated life and career being close friends with Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Franz Kline, Philip Guston, Alexander Calder and Willem de Kooning.

The exhibition Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective will be on view until December 14, 2009 at the Sidney Mishkin Gallery, Baruch College, NYC.
